Overview

Once you are in Dar Es Salaam for any reason then you are entitled to visit Nyerere and Mikumi National Parks which are very close to each other. Nyerere National Park is the largest park in Africa, 4 times the size of the Serengeti. Nyerere park is Africa’s greatest conservation area and covers a wide variety of wildlife habitats.
Mikumi is the best area to visit as it benefits from the highest game density of the entire conservation area. Mikumi is gaining popularity as time goes on with increasing number of people visiting the park, you too should not miss visiting.

Day By Day Itinerary

Day 1: Dar Es Salaam to Mikumi National Park.

After breakfast, drive to Mikumi National park, lunch served and en route to Morogoro. Mikumi is nestled between Uluguru Mountain to the northeast of Udzungwa Mountains and the Rift Valley escarpment. To the south west as part of Nyerere ecosystem, it benefits from the highest game density of the entire conservation area.
On arrival to the park enjoy afternoon game drives in Mikumi until sunset. Dinner and overnight at Camp Bastian or similar Accommodation. – FB.

Day 2: Mikumi to Nyerere National Park.

Breakfast is served at the Camp. Check out and drive to Selous Game Reserve and upon arrival check in the camp and then proceed with the afternoon boat Safari in the Rufiji River. Boat Safari in the afternoon is another way of game viewing on the Rufiji River. It offers a unique experience as it is the only park in East Africa where this option is available.
Rufiji River is one of the most dramatic rivers in Tanzania’s National Parks which is navigable all year round. The chance to get out of the vehicle and view game from a boat is one of the things which makes Nyerere National Park such a great place to visit.
Meals and overnight at Jimbiza Camp or similar Accommodation. – FB.

Day 3: Full Day Tour in Nyerere National Park.

After breakfast, another full day of game drive in the park. Nyerere National Park possesses a diverse landscape from hot volcanic springs, sporadic lakes, channels from the Great Ruaha and Rufiji rivers.
It is Africa’s greatest conservation area and covers a wide variety of wildlife habitats including Lakes, open grassland, Acacia, Miombo woodland and riverine forests. The topography of the park varies from rolling savannah woodland, grassland plains and rocky outcrops cut by the Rufiji River and its tributaries. The Kilombero and Luwegu together cover the greatest catchment area in East Africa, which flows from north to south provides the life-blood of the park. Sailing or Rafting down the Rufiji River is a superb way of seeing game.

Day 4: Nyerere National Park to Dar es Salaam City.

Wake up very early morning, after a cup of tea/coffee transfer to Mtemere gate. Intending to walk inside Nyerere National Park with the escort of an armed ranger.
The journey takes about 2 to 3hours, on arrival to your pick up point you will be transferred back to the Lodge for Breakfast. There after proceed with short game drives till lunch which will be served at the lodge. After lunch, check out of the Camp and drive back to Dar es Salaam.
