7 Days Itinerary Kilimanjaro Trekking Marangu Route
Overview
Marangu route is the route that approaches Mountain Kilimanjaro from Southeast and is described as the easiest trekking route. It is the oldest and well established route, favorable to those who dislike camping for it offers dormitory-type huts where people can sleep. Have a great trekking experience with us to Marangu route where you can use the same route for ascent and descent. If you need, you can have an extra day for acclimatization.

Day to Day Itinerary
Day 1: Arriving Day
Your air plane trip will end at Kilimanjaro International Airport where you shall be met by the driver. Transfer you to Moshi, then particularly take you to Sal Salinero Hotel where you will be served with dinner, shower and spend the night. www.salsalinerohotel.com- BB.
Day 2: Marangu (1,843m) Gate to Mandara Hut (2,700m).
Distance; 8km.
Trekking Time; 4-5hrs.
You will be served with breakfast and after you shall be taken to Marangu gate. After reaching the gate you will be registered and introduced to our porters and team that will company you when climbing the mountain. After registration the porters will pack your properties and the trekking will begin.
Starting the ascent route on a clear ridge trail through the tropic rainforest with lunch box. You will be hiking through a biodiverse zone and a home of the endemic flower and the Montane forest. Lucky enough you can be able to see some animals like blue monkeys at the upper edge of the forest line. The trekking continues and finally exposed with a beautiful hillside until we reach Mandara Hut. You have an option to either walk over to Maundi Crater where you can possibly have a great view of Mawenzi Peak. You can also see white, blue and black monkeys or relax at the camp and enjoy the beautiful scenery.
We shall have dinner and overnight at Mandara Hut- FB.
Day 3: Mandara Hut (2,700m) to Horombo Hut (3,720m).
Distance; 12km.
Trekking Time; 6-8hrs.
After breakfast we move forward leaving the forest towards the high moorland vegetation zone. The area is dominated by heather and Lobelia Deckenii with a good weather condition. At this point we can be able to view the appearance of the two volcanic peaks that are Kibo and Mawenzi.
It will be a full day climbing where there will be lunch box for you.
We are to arrive at Horombo Hut after a duration of six hours where we shall get dinner and spend the night. Horombo huts is like a small village but has a space for 120 people to sleep in beds, it is the only hut in Kilimanjaro with beds- FB.
Day 4: Horombo Hut (3,720m) to Kibo Hut (4,703m).
Distance; 10km.
Trekking Time; 6-8hrs.
You shall have breakfast then depart for a full day climbing up to Kibo Hut with your lunch box. This is a gradual and extra day defined as the moment of acclimatization on Mawenzi ridge. There won’t be any to pack your properties for after reaching the peak you will return to this camp and stay another night. You will be taken on an acclimatization walk to zebra rocks and the base of Mawenzi peak.
We continue by climbing the mountain crossing the lunar desert meeting Kibo Camp which is at the bottom of Kibo Crater Wall.
We shall have an early dinner and spend the night at Kibo Hut preparing for the summit day- FB.
Day 5: Kibo Hut (4,703m) to Uhuru Peak (5,895m) to Horombo Hut (3,720m).
Distance; 6km ascent and 16km descent.
Trekking Time; 6-8hrs.
On this day you shall have a midnight tea with cookies at the hut then after ascend to Uhuru Peak. This is where your determination will be called upon however your gift is the most amazing sunrise of the day that possibly you have never seen before. We will push the dark trekking though it is a state of great cold and strong wind until Gilman’s Peak.
At Gilman’s Peak you shall be grateful because the sun will be rising by the time. A few minutes later we shall finally reach at Uhuru Peak via Stella Point. We shall spend few moments at the peak then after descend to Horombo Hut where dinner and night will be spent for the last time- FB.
Day 6: Horombo Hut (3,720m) to Marangu Gate (1,848m).
Distance; 20km.
Trekking Time; 5-7hrs.
On our last trek on the mountain we shall have a long time going down through the tropical rainforest. We shall descend further 1740m to Marangu Gate where you will be awarded your summit certificate from the park headquarters.
At Marangu Gate we will be met by the driver and travel back to Moshi. The journey to Moshi will particularly end at Sal Salinero Hotel where you will be served with dinner, shower and comfortably spend the night- HB.
Day 7: Deprture Day.
In the morning you shall have a relaxed breakfast and after you will be taken to Kilimanjaro International Airport for you flight back home.
