How Did Tarangire Get Its Name?
The name “Tarangire” comes from two local languages:
- “Tara” means river in Mbugwe language.
- “Ngire” means warthog in Hadzabe language.
Given the many warthogs in the area, it’s a fitting name!

- By Air: Fly into Kilimanjaro International Airport, then take a short charter flight to Kuro Airstrip within the park.
- By Road: From Kilimanjaro International Airport, it’s a 2.5-hour drive (120 km) to the park.
