Overview

The Lemosho route is commonly suggested because it offers a scenic view and easy to reach. The route maximizes a chance for the climber to reach the summit. It will take you 1hr from Moshi town to Londrossi gate getting the direct way to reach your destination. We will offer you a hospitable hiking safari of 8 days from Arusha through Lemosho route to Uhuru summit then back to Moshi.

Day to Day Itinerary

Day 1: Kilimanjaro International Airport.

This will be the arriving day. You will be met at Kilimanjaro International Airport and transferred to Salinero Hotel.
Salinero Hotel, it is a hotel located 3km from Moshi town. At Salinero Hotel is where you shall get dinner and overnight- BB. Or similar accommodation.

Day 2: Londorossi Gate to Forest Camp.

Elevation (feet): 7,800ft to 9,500ft.
Distance: 6km.
Hiking Time: 3 – 4hrs.

Londorossi Gate, is located in the western base of the mountain. You will register yourself at the gate by the authorities before having a 12km drive to the starting point. The western side of Mountain Kilimanjaro is a bit wild for you can be able to spot large antelopes and buffaloes. Such animals won’t harm you because you will be escorted by a classified guide who will work upon such circumstances.
Many of the tour guides prefer serving lunch at the point of contact few miles after passing the entrance gate before starting a short hike to the forest camp.
You will be served with dinner when you reach at Forest Camp and you shall spend the overnight in special tents at Rainforest- FB.

Day 3: Forest Camp to Shira Camp 1.

Elevation (feet): 9,500ft to 11,500ft.
Distance: 8km.
Hiking time: 5 – 6hrs.

This day commences with a slight hike of the rainforest zone into a savannah of tall grasses and volcanic rock draped with lichen beards. The hiking is apparently short and easy, as we hike through the lushing rolling hills and pass several streams. We arrive in the Shira ridge before getting down gently to Shira Camp 1. The Camp is located on the western edges of shira plateau. At this point the temperature falls below freezing so it will be colder to night than the previous on.
You will get a camping for dinner an overnight at Moorland- FB.

Day 4: Shira Camp 1 to Shira Camp 2 to Moir Hut.

Elevation (feet): 11,500ft to 13,800ft.
Distance: 14km.
Hiking time: 5 – 7hrs.

The following day you will start the hiking from Shira Camp 1 and continue up to the Shira plateau to Shira camp 2. We leave the forest and the way gets stepper as it enters the moorland zone. Shira Camp 2 in 3,847meters on the eastern edge of Shira plateau, it provides a beautiful view across the Kilimanjaro Valley below.
It is a route of almost 3,850meters whereby the plateau is exposed that results to strong winds with temperature lowering to zero. It is a bit long journey which leads you to the Shira Caldera and towards the path of Moir Hut having a fabulous view of arrow glacier. The hiking will be finished at a high altitude so you may in some circumstances start feeling altitude sickness symptoms. However, sleeping high on this night will give you energy on your next day trekking. We will have a camp at this place to night.

Day 5: Moir Hut to Lava Tower to Barranco Camp.

Elevation (feet): 13,800ft to 13,000ft.
Distance: 7km.
Hiking time: 4 – 6hrs.

The day when you shall be hiking through a landscape in a desert form. We will traverse the heath zone of Shira plateau and start climbing the western slope of Kibo massif. We move forward to the eastern part of the ridges and then towards the Lava Tower. Lunch at lava tower then after descend to 3,900meters to Barranco Camp through the beautiful Scenic forest. The good way of acclimatizing the body to altitude is by climbing high and sleeping low.
The descent to Barranco Camp offers an opportunity to take pictures of the western breach and breach wall. You will reach the camp which is situated in a valley below the Breach and the Great Barranco Wall.
When at Barranco Camp you will get your dinner and overnight at Semi Desert habitat- FB.

Day 6: Barranco Camp to Karanga Camps.

Elevation (feet): 13,000ft – 13,100ft.
Distance: 5km.
Hiking time: 4 – 5hrs.

The day begins by ascending to the base of Great Barranco Wall with a view of Kilimanjaro’s ice field. We continue with the steep slope of about 900ft and cross a series of hills and valleys. It is a bit tough and strange way so in an unexpectable moments you might be on move using four limbs as you traverse the wall of the top of Karanga Valley. A steep ahead leads us to Karanga Camp, it is a short day meant for acclimatization. Reaching the camp will give you a great permission for you to take lunch.
This will be a short but tough hiking safari which will end at the Alpine Desert habitat for dinner and overnight- FB.

Day 7: Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp.

Elevation (feet): 13,000ft to 15,300ft.
Distance: 4km.
Hiking time: 4 – 5hrs.

The day will be a bit short, it involves hiking from Karanga camp to the junction that connects with the Mweka trail. Reaching at Barafu Camp will remark the end of hiking in the southern circuit which offers scenic view from different angles. After getting into the camp, we will have a demonstration on the use 0f safety equipments like oxygen and hyperbolic bags.
You will be required to make camp enjoy and rest. Preparation for early dinner for the following day towards the peaks of the Mountain.
Alpine Desert at Barafu Camp will be the temporary habitat for you to get dinner and overnight- FB.

Day 8: Barafu Camp to Summit to Mweka Hut.

Elevation (feet): 15,300ft to 19,345ft
Distance: 5km ascent and 12km descent.
Hiking time: 7 – 8hrs and 4 – 6hrs descent.

At early midnight you shall take hot coffee or tea according to your option and bites. After you will be having a hiking trip higher to the summit. The upper you go the cooler it become so you will experience extreme moments of wind and cold.
The walking is slow and tough that needs high concentration on whatever you doing or touching. For about 4 to 6hrs time of hiking you will reach to Stella Point(5,739metres). At this point you will have a chance to relax and change ideas with the guide. This is where you shall generate superiority to continue with a 1 to 2hr hiking around and up the crater rim to Uhuru Peak(5,895m).
At the pick you will be allowed to take picture to those who wish to and later start heading back to Stella Point, then descending to Mweka Hut. – FB.

Day 9: Mweka Camp to Moshi.

Elevation (feet): 10,000ft to 5,400ft.
Distance: 10km.
Hiking time: 3 – 4hrs.

You shall head to Mweka camp which is situated in the upper forests. Then after we shall continue with the safari back to Mweka gate to sign out and collect the summit certificates for either Stella Point of Uhuru Peak. We shall continue with the walking from Mweka gate to Mweka village where the driver will meet us and drive to Moshi town.
The drive will take us directly to Arusha town and have dinner at Salinero Hotel as well as spending the night at the Hotel- HB.

Day 10: Kilimanjaro International Airport.

This day will be your departing day so you will be taken to the International Airport for the flight back home.
